• Backlash over village pool’s roof

      Two Highland councillors have added their voices to a campaign to repair damage to the roof of the swimming pool in Ullapool.

      The Wester Ross leisure facility closed earlier this year because of problems associated with water damage.

      Repairing the structure, which was built in 1993, it is estimated would cost up to £345,000.

      Local residents have started a campaign to raise money towards the repairs.

      Councillor for north, west and central Sutherland, Robbie Rowantree, who is also the Liberal Democrat candidate for Caithness, Sutherland and Ross, said: “It is a disgrace that a roof that is only 18 years old has been condemned by structural engineers.
