Communities brace for shock £345,000 roof repairs at pool. An expert survey has discovered that repairs to the roof of the community swimming pool at Ullapool could cost as much as £345,000, far more than originally envisaged.

The damage to the roof closed the pool several weeks ago, and now Ullapool and communities all over Wester Ross and Sutherland are working hard on fundraising, but the additional cost has come as a hammer-blow.

An expert’s glum report stated: “It is clear that the entire roof requires to be replaced, from the laminated rafters upwards.” The report adds: “The building was built in 1993 and one would not expect to see such extensive water damage in the roof structure.”

Now there could be legal action raised against parties involved in the building of the pool, and this will be considered at a public meeting on August 16.
