Villagers at Ullapool have been forced to close their 20-year-old swimming pool because of a “serious problem” which engineers say could cost in excess of £100,000 to correct.
The west coast community could now be facing a massive bill after plans to instal cost-cutting solar panels revealed the need for more than £100,000 of repairs to a roof.
The discovery of structural defects in the 20-year-old building resulted in the facility not reopening after its annual maintenance shut-down, and scaffolding will soon be in place over the swimming pool.
The “dry-side” games hall and fitness suite at the centre remains open to villagers and visitors.
The Loch Broom community has now launched a Raise the Roof fundraising campaign, having previously collected £140,000 towards the £760,000 cost of building the facility.
