Motorcycling, in my opinion the best way to travel and definitely the best way to see/tour the Scottish Highlands. The Scottish Highlands appeal to many bikers including myself, the Scottish Highlands offer some great twisty roads with some of the best scenery in the UK.
Dependant on where you are travelling from will depend on what route you take to tour the Scottish Highlands however it is my personal opinion that the West Coast offers better roads and better scenery.

Kyle of Lochalsh to Ullapool Coastal Route
If you are staying at Ullapool for a couple of days here are a few of my favourite routes to take.
West Coast South Round Trip Back To Ullapool - Ullapool-Gairloch-Applecross-Ullapool 197miles
I have indicated where you can get petrol:
(Please note not all open on a sunday and none are 24hrs)
A: Central Garage, Main Street, Kyle - 01599 534676
B: Applecross
C: Kinlochewe Service Station - 01445 760227
D: Gairloch Filling Station: 01445 712415
E: Dundonnell Hotel:01854 633204
F: No petrol but fast junction to be cautious at, tends to have gravel
G: Ullapool Lochbroom petrol station 01854 612560| Garve Rd
This has to be my favourite route, with a lot of twisty roads and long sweeping bends and amazing scenery making it a very enjoyable run. One of the things to watch on a Sunday petrol stations are closed so be careful to plan your route in advance. Applecross is one amazing road, not for the faint hearted or not confident rider as there are a few hairpin bends with some lovely but slightly concerning drops
Ullapool To Durness
This is another great route if you are heading south from to Ullapool from Durness, this route has long sweeping bends but also some very tight bends (near Kylesku). You can head over to Achiltibuie which goes to single track which is a lot of up and down single track just have to watch out for the sweep and caravans. There are lovely views at Achiltibuie and you can take a short cut to Lochinver, however i done this road last year and its all loose gravel, my KTM 990 SM is light and is suited to this type of road but the back and front were sliding all over the place. Its a nice road, you feel in the middle of no where but if you are fully loaded on a touring bike i would not recommend it.
Inchnadapth must be one of the most photographed ruins in Scotland and it is well worth stopping of and going for walk. Once you take the A894 it gets really twisty and you get an amazing view looking north towards Kylesku, great panorama.
You can get fuel at Scourie 24/7 pay with card at the pumps, heading north to Durness it goes single track with some amazing views and beaches, Durness is lovely if you get the weather.
